The botanical watercolours featured are from the Singapore Botanic Gardens’ collection and showcase orchids painted by artists employed by or associated with the Gardens. The paintings are of orchids found in the wild in Singapore and the surrounding region or of orchid hybrids created in Singapore. Today our orchid collection consists of about 200 genera and more than 1000 species from throughout the tropical regions of the world, particularly from Southeast Asia. In addition to these wild species. The Gardens’ efforts to cross orchids to create new hybrids, coupled with experimental research, led to the growth of a new industry in Singapore and eventually in various other Southeast Asian countries. These plants can also be found in the National Orchid Garden.
